Facts about Facial Rejuvenation

The main characteristic of an aging face is its squareish jaw line, which was oval in youth. Most patients who opt for this surgery are in the age group of 45 to 60 for women and 50 to 60 for men. The basic purpose of a facelift is to elevate the sagging skin, tighten the face muscles and fat. The scars that are created during a face lift are hidden behind the hair line or the crease of the ear. Patients who are suffering from a loss of definition of the neck and jaw are offered an ideal solution in facial rejuvenation. In such cases the sagging tissues are repaired by re suspension of the platysma muscle. Have a look at the facts about facial rejuvenation that all patients should be aware of.
Factors that Cause Sagging
The face of a patient is exposed the most to the harsh elements of nature. Exposure to the sun, wind and extreme hot and cold temperatures causes damage to the skin. The pollution in the air is also a critical reason for aging nowadays. The food that a patient consumes also plays a critical role in making the skin look younger or old. Bad habits like smoking and drinking, lack of exercise also contribute the process of aging.
Conventional Methods of Face Lift
Two decades ago cosmetic surgeons had one single method to treat facelifts. In present times there are a host of methods that a patient can choose from, including skin surface methods, treatment with ultrasound waves and fillers that can be injected.
Options in Cosmetic Surgery
An individual, who decides to go for a cosmetic surgery can choose from a face lift, an eye lid lift or a neck lift. In present times a simple brow lift surgery can also make the person look young by ten years. Blepharoplasty is a surgery, in which only the wrinkles around the eyes are removed. A surgeon might also suggest facial implants to patients who need support in the jaws, chin or cheeks for additional support. Plenty of patients are opting for a neck lift surgery to look younger.
Facial Fillers
Facial fillers can make a person face look younger and more youthful. Fillers basically transfer collagen in the form of Sculptra and Restylane to the innermost dermis layer of the skin. It replenishes the skin and works by hydrating it from inside. The effect of the fillers is seen lesser wrinkles, smoother folds and mellowed facial grooves. Botox and Dysport are also tow common fillers used to decrease wrinkles.
Skin Resurfacing Treatments

Facial rejuvenation can also be done using lasers, chemical peels and other methods that include microdermabrasion and vibradermabrasion techniques. A resurfacing technique is successful in decreasing fine lines, the reduction of pores and fading freckles too. Some of the techniques are also successful in decreasing the appearance of fine capillaries and boost the production of collagen naturally.

5 of the Most Popular Facelift Techniques You Should Know About

Facelift is one of the most commonly used techniques by women and men all over the world when their facial skin starts sagging down. Although experts say that there can never be a perfect facelift, yet there are some techniques which can take you to near-perfection lifts. The techniques are constantly evolving and newer processes tend to give better results. But you must also make it a point to take the consent of a dermatologist before opting for one of these treatments. If you are looking for one, here is a list of the 5 most popular facelift techniques which you should know about:
1. SMAS Lift
This is a tried and tested technique by most users and it does give good results. The excess skin which has drooped is firstly removed and then re-draped. The skin and the SMAS (Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System), which is the muscle layer underneath your facial skin, are elevated and then tightened. Your surgeon might also remove the fatty tissue under your neck.
2. Subperiosteal Lift
This technique requires the help of an endoscope. It can also be done with the help of an incision which is made to run across the scalp in a horizontal manner. Incisions might or might not be placed inside the mouth. These incisions are used to get rid of the excess fat, free the muscles and the skin layers from the bones so that it becomes easier to pull them up and tighten them.
3. Mid Facelift
You will also hear about this as the ‘cheek lift’. This lift is also accompanied by a neck lift which you have to discuss with your surgeon since it does not make a whole face and neck transformation. This lift is done in the cheek region of the face which is triangular in shape and connects it with the chin. Therefore the neck region requires another procedure for it.
4. Deep Plane Facelift
This facelift technique is one of the most popular ones that are used. This includes complete face rejuvenation. Here are the benefits that you will get from this technique: an open brow lift, upper and lower eyelid lift, face and neck lift; facial tissues, fat, muscles will be lifted in a continuous section. The conventional and older methods of facelifting are far lesser persistent than this one which is a deep-face lift. Therefore chances of a continued swelling remains.
5. Temporal Lift (Lateral Lift, Lateral Brow Lift)
If you wish to get the perfect youthful vive in your face then this is it. The Temporal Lift is a lateral and diagonal lift which helps in getting the perfect lift even till the outer arch of your eyebrows. This lift also relaxes the folds between the two brows, the smallest wrinkles in the forehead and the eyes. Your face will also get a chiseled look once you get this done as it lifts the cheek skin and fat which have descended with age. This technique also uses an endoscope or with the help of a vertical incision through the hairline.

Facelifts: Prepare Well and Follow Aftercare Instructions

When deciding to go in for a plastic surgery, consult a well reputed doctor who can satisfy all your queries and give you complete details of the procedure. Recovery times can vary from person to person, but are generally two to three weeks. Plan a surgery only when you will be able to take such a long break from work or other responsibilities. Resting during the recovery period without any distractions and with help from a friend are most critical. Let’s have a look at the before and after care instructions of a facial rejuvenation.
1. Initial Preparation
A good surgeon will first take complete details of the patients medical history before taking a decision on his or her surgery. A person with the following ailments or habits is not advisable to go for a facelift surgery.
·         If the patient is suffering from hypertension, and it is not under control
·         If the patient is a smoker. Since smoking can interfere with the healing process
·         If the patient has a history of ketoid scars and hypertropic scars.
·         If the patient has a history of bleeding and slow clotting rate.
The patient should not hide anything from the surgeon and give him complete details of the medication he is taking. Also mention any herbs or supplements that might be getting consumed on a daily basis.
2. Do’ and Don’t’s
The patient should follow the instructions from the doctor’s office very strictly. The guide lines on what to eat and what not to eat should be adhered to. Smokers should quit at least two weeks before the surgery. All intake of aspirin should be stopped a week before the surgery. In case of any confusion the patient should call up the doctor’s office immediately.
3. After Surgery Tips
You must organize the following before you go in for the surgery.
·         Decide on transport arrangements to go home.
·         Organize a nurse or a friend to stay with you for the first few days or a week at least.
·         Stock up on front opening shirts and blouses that will be easy to wear and take off.
·         Grow your hair to be able to hide the scars of the surgery later.
·         Identify an area where you will be able to recover and rest in peace.
·         Be sure to take before and after plastic surgery pictures.
4. Anesthesia
The surgery might be performed at a surgeons’ office in a hospital or in a surgery facility. In most cases the patient is allowed to go home the same day. The surgeon can best take the decision of keeping the patient in the hospital for a night or letting him go the same day.
·         In local anesthesia only the face is numbed and the patient is given a sedative to relax. The patient will be aware of the proceedings, painlessly.
·         In general anesthesia the patient’s whole body will be numbed and he or she will be asleep during the procedure.
